We can always count on Nando’s to deliver some good news and good food. On Tuesday, the restaurant chain announced the arrival of “The Great Imitator”, a plant-based alternative to its famous peri peri chicken. The newbie is made entirely from pea protein, designed to taste just like the peri peri chicken, and it can be ordered as a burger, pitta, or wrap.

The Great Imitator isn’t just about giving customers more options, it’s also about making a commitment to leading a more sustainable future. “We’ve made some pretty big commitments to fight climate change, and introducing more plant-based options to our menus is just one of the many ways we’re aiming to bring down our carbon emissions,” Nando’s said about the new item.

But, remember guys, it is 2020 so there’s a catch. Unfortunately, Nando’s isn’t claiming that the new menu item is vegan as it’s cooked on the same grill as the meat, which risks cross-contamination. Hopefully it’s something Nando’s will reconsider in the future so that all plant-based customers can enjoy the new addition.

The Nando’s Great Imitator is available from 13 Oct., via collection, delivery, and eat in.
