How Do Love Spells Work?
Honigman tells us that love spells are simple, straightforward, and work without any training – don’t worry, you won’t need a magic wand for it to work. They’re accessible to anyone who wants to try them and can include everything from throwing the skin of a peeled apple to the floor, so that it creates the shape of your true love’s initial, to spreading rose essential oil on your pillow, to help you dream of your future husband.
“Love spells work on several levels,” she explains. “First, the spell caster needs to be really ready for the love which they’re calling in – so the love spell will help the practitioner initially release any leftover trauma from old relationships, and they will also begin to see themselves in a more positive light. When the spell caster views themselves as someone worthy of love, they are ready.
“The next thing is, drawing the right person in. There are billions of people in this world, and many of them are single, so which one is the right one? There has to be a list of qualities that you want to draw in, some deal breakers and some non-negotiables. By focusing on those qualities, every day, you’ll be more likely to notice when someone suitable steps into your life. It helps you focus mentally, admit to yourself that you want to fall in love, and believe in yourself that you can attract that love,” she tells us.
How Do You Cast a Love Spell?
Making a recipe or list, as Perry did, is the most important element of a good, solid love spell according to Honigman. “The list should include all of your non-negotiables, all of your favourite traits in a mate, and whatever you find attractive. Ideally, they’ll be phrased in the positive, so instead of ‘not boring’, write ‘adventurous’.”
But for a step by step guide on how to form the perfect love spell, Honigman recommends following these steps to ensure the finer details are covered:
- Use a fragrance or incense – Light a lavender or jasmine incense, both fragrances can bring in love. And a pink candle for romance.
- Use a crystal and some oil – Place a rose quartz crystal by your candle, rub some love oil like Inbaal’s Apothecary Love Oil (£22) into it, and rub the remaining oil over your hands or hair – rose or jasmine are good, and there are pre-prepared love blends.
- Wear red or pink – If you have a red or a pink top, put it on to further enhance the love spell.
- Write a list of the perfect person – Sit and write a list of the characteristics of the perfect person, create a full person in your mind’s eye.
- Visualise your dream person – Visualise them as if they’re right beside you, holding your hand, and focus on that feeling. What does it feel like? What are your emotions telling you? Can you smell or hear him or her?
- When it feels really real, the spell is cast – Hold the emotions in your heart, and carry your list with you regularly.
- Repeat – Read the list three times a day to reinforce the magic every day.
How Long Does a Love Spell Take to Work?
Now the hard work is done, you’ll be wondering how long it’ll take for your spell to kick in and to know for sure, you might need to get clued up on your lunar months.
“Spells can work within a required timeframe, meaning you can ask for your wishes to manifest within two weeks or a year, depending on your preference,” Honigman tells us. “If no timing is stated, I’d expect a spell to start working within a lunar month, meaning 29 days or under.”
Are There Any Risks to Casting a Love Spell?
As with any spells there can be some risks or dangers, but these are far outweighed by the benefits. “It pays to be mindful,” Honigman suggests. “Attracting someone who’s wrong for you is the first major risk, so take great care with the list and add some obvious requirements such as ‘single’ and ‘lives in the same country’ if those items are important to you.”
“Bringing an ex back into your life is another risk,” she adds. “And of course, if you’re using a candle or incense, there’s also the fire risk attached, so keep your spells safe and away from an open window or flammable curtains.”

Including some rose quartz in your décor can help – a tiny rose quartz crystal ball or candle holder maintain an environment of romance,” she says.
