There’s no denying that M&S’s Colin the Caterpillar cake is elite – it’s the vanguard of chocolate cakes, if you will. The light and fluffy chocolate sponge is filled with delectable chocolate buttercream and covered in (yep, you guessed it), more chocolate. So, now that our favourite edible critter dessert is returning for our favourite chocolatey holiday, we just couldn’t resist revelling in all the glory that is Colin.
For Easter 2023, Colin the Caterpillar has returned with a new friend, and we can’t wait to welcome them both into our kitchens. The food retailer, which is no stranger to a viral moment thanks to its magic coffee release this year, took to Instagram to share the announcement on 29 March. “Everyone’s favourite caterpillar is back for Easter 2023, and this time, he’s got a new friend! 🐛🤝🐣,” it penned. “Introducing @official_colinthecaterpillar meets Easter chick – not one, but TWO decadent chocolate cakes.”
In the duo cake pack, Colin proudly wears a cracked egg decoration in true Easter fashion, while his new pal, Easter chick, models some pale yellow sprinkles, before being finished off with edible orange chicken feet and a chocolate chick face. Of course, in true Colin the Caterpillar form, both cakes are chocolate sponge rolls filled with chocolate buttercream and covered in milk chocolate.
Colin’s loyal followers flocked to the comments section of the announcement to share their thoughts on his new friend, with one writing: “How cute are these two 🐣”, while another added: “We need these in our life……..and our faces 😋”. Someone else penned: “It IS the best cake,” which captured our thoughts entirely. If you see us munching away at both of these cakes, mind your business.
