Spooky season has arrived and while you’re likely to be working on your Halloween costumes or decorating your home with pumpkins, just how brave are you to really embrace the occasion? Order yourself a la-aahh-tte and plan a visit to Sheffield’s Carbrook Hall Starbucks, the UK’s most haunted coffee shop.

There’s been mysterious footsteps heard in all rooms, coffee beans randomly falling off shelves, and unexplained voices calling out within the 17th century building. Professional ghost hunters, Lee and Linzi Steer, recently visited the property to verify the ghostly vibes with specialist equipment. “We even heard one say ‘the siege’, which is incredible knowing the Carbrook Hall as a meeting place during the siege of Sheffield Castle”, they said.

The Grade II listed stone wing is all that is left standing after the rest of the building was demolished in the 19th century. It has been a pub, and then became a Starbucks in 2019, maintaining all the original features including plaster mouldings and wood panelling. While grabbing a quick cappuccino might be one reason to visit, the ghost stories are undoubtedly a big pull as customers see if their coffee might come with a side of paranormal activity.

If the return of the pumpkin spice latte wasn’t enough to kick off autumn, Starbuck has added the Sour Apple Frappucino Blended Beverage to its menu. No, this is not a trick, it’s all treat thanks to the sour taste with black drizzle dripping across the whipped topping. Available until stocks last, you can also team your drink with with a skeleton biscuit or chocolate muffin for the ultimate scary snack. But would you enjoy an espress-ooooh in a haunted coffee shop? Maybe you are looking for a bat white to calm your nerves? Or try a frapp-boo-cino with a spine-tingling chill? We dare you!
